Their music is steeped in sounds and lyricism of improvisational rock and roll\, reggae\, soul\, carribean jazz\, bluegrass\, americana\, and folk\, among others – if it has to be contained to a category\, World music suits it best. Chock-full of impressive songwriting ability and instrumental virtuosity\, and with two released full-length studio albums\, a live album and a third studio album in the chute\, this 6-piece ensemble of artistry has nowhere to go but up. \nJoe Dunn – Guitar / Vocals\nDemitri Rallis – Guitar / Vocals\nDanny Q – Saxaphone\nJimmy Geisinger – Bass\nDoug Christianson – Percussion\nGeoffrey Randall – Drums\nKevin Dorsey – Keys \nSince their first show in late 2012\, a major buzz about the band Frogleg has been spreading through the music scene stemming from their ever-growing weekly tradition\, “Frogleg Thursdays @ Bunkers” in downtown Minneapolis. After four years\, Frogleg closed the book on that chapter of their musical path. Their send off from Bunker’s was met with a series of sold out appearances at the club counting down to the final show. \nSince departing from their home gig\, the band has headlined shows at most of the major venues in Minneapolis from the Cabooze to the Skyway Theatre downtown as well as an appearance on the First Avenue mainroom stage. Outside of Minneapolis\, Frogleg has expanded their touring circuit considerably\, now including many of the friendly mountain states as well as the greater Midwest. Frogleg has shared the stage with Steven Tyler\, Jeff Austin Band\, New Orleans Suspects\, Devon Allman\, Orgone\, Raw Oyster Cult\, Samantha Fish\, Allie Kral\, Robert Randolph and has played multiple dates with Melvin Seals and the Jerry Garcia Band. \nKnown for their songwriting and improvisational live performances\, Frogleg would be best described as a soul band\, as their influences are not drawn from one specific genre. A typical Frogleg show usually features a unique blend of Funk\, Reggae\, Rock and Jazz exploration. \nFrogleg’s debut\, self-titled album\, released in April of 2015\, first pressing sold out in under six months. The band followed up in 2017 with the release of ‘Busy Checking In’. The release show was met with much excitement pairing Frogleg with George Porter Jr. and Jon Cleary on the beautiful Como Dockside Pavilion. The album is seeing lots of attention from national radio\, charting on stations from California to New York! The band followed up their release by pressing the album to a double vinyl and adding on some bonus live tracks from an in studio radio performance. The vinyl release show quickly sold out – something that Frogleg seems to be making a habit of. Do yourself a favor and go see a Frogleg show! \nChicken Wire Empire \nBorn from the Wisconsin music scene\, Chicken Wire Empire rides the line between traditional bluegrass and the contemporary. Its members have spent a lifetime honing their craft\, with deep roots in tradition and music throughout the midwest scene. Their 2022 release “Fresh Pickles” features all original music by Minnesota songsmith Chris Castino (Big Wu)\, reimagined in Chicken Wire Empire’s style. It is graced by guests Peter Rowan\, Sam Bush\, Jerry Douglas\, Andy Hall\, Tim O’Brien\, and Nick Forester. With love from their local scene\, friends\, and families\, Chicken Wire Empire looks to the future\, with a goal to strengthen Wisconsin’s bluegrass scene\, and further the appreciation of acoustic music. Raine was a contestant on season 20 of The Voice\, has been featured on PBS’s 30 Minute Music Hour\, and most recently was featured in NPR’s “Best 2021 Tiny Desk Contest.” When Raine first picked up a guitar at 11 years old\, she found a home for the stories she had always felt the need to tell. Her lyricism is potent and poetic\, and her arrangements fill in the cracks that language can’t. As a teenager\, she spent her evenings playing at blues clubs with musicians three times her age. Now\, she writes and arranges all the parts for her own 9-piece band. Formed in 2016\, the band released their eponymous EP and a year later the full length album ‘Back To Bad’. Their music has a very large and refreshingly organic sound that follows in the many traditions of the yester-year of Rock N Roll\, thus gaining them the reputation of being a hard rock version of Fleetwood Mac\, just dirtier. \nSince The Almas full length release\, they have toured North America numerous times. Most notably the “Sin City Tour” which spanned over two months. Their tours have taken them to world-famous venues such as the Whisky a Go Go in L.A.\, and allowed them to perform with artists such as Saliva\, Wayland\, Shallow Side\, Dizzy Reed\, Tantric\, Max Weinberg\, Janet Gardner of Vixen\, and Jake E. Lee to name a few. It has been said\, “You don’t just like Joseph Huber’s music. You feel it’s something that the rest of the world needs to hear\, and how criminal it is that it isn’t spreading far and wide.” That sentiment could be related to the fact that the voices which Huber unearths are subtle and take more than a hurried listen to truly absorb. A person who appears reserved and matter-of-fact in everyday speech brings forth songs that are anything but that. \nAs the singer\, songwriter\, performer\, recorder and producer of all of his own material\, Huber has his hands full\, but never seems to miss a beat. And his own ‘solo’ material has now certainly surpassed the output of his past efforts\, both in volume and substance. As one of the founding member of the .357 String Band–a group that would probably fit better in today’s ‘Americana-saturated’ environment than in the early to middle aughts–he’s gradually honed a sound that seems to fill a very real gap within the still-emerging genre. Having progressed\, Huber continues moving onward and upward captivating folks with his sincere and well-crafted songs under his own name along with the impeccable musicianship of his fellow touring partners. Whether it’s irresistible\, fiddle-driven\, dancing tunes or honest\, heart-wrenching “songwriter” songs\, Huber’s songs and shows spans the spectrum of ‘Roots’ music while preferring not to stay within the boundaries of any strict genre classification. \nHis lyricism and introspective writing style has received high acclaim from music enthusiasts looking for a more substantive substitute to much of today’s music. Maintaining a solid touring schedule\, playing all throughout both the U.S. and all around Europe\, Huber continues to gain positive press\, including being listed on L.A. Weekly’s ’10 More Country Artists To Listen To.’ Blue Ridge Outdoor writes\, “Songwriters like Townes Van Zandt\, Chris Smither\, and John Prine can marvel listeners in the simplest of acoustic settings\,…From time to time\, I stumble upon a new singer/songwriter whose work warrants comparison to the luminaries on this list. …Huber’s songwriting has me comparing him to my favorites above.” He’s had the pleasure of sharing the stage with many artists including Tyler Childers; Hackensaw Boys; Scott H Biram; The Tillers; Possessed By Paul James; Dave Simonett; Robert Earl Keen; Ben Nichols; The Tossers; Charlie Parr; Amy Lavere; Horseshoes & Hand Grenades; Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band; Henhouse Prowlers; Keller Williams\, and more… \nAs of now\, Huber has delivered five solo records: ‘Bury Me Where I Fall’ (2010); ‘Tongues Of Fire’ (2012)\, ‘The Hanging Road’ (2014); and ‘The Suffering Stage’ (2017)\, ‘Moondog’ (2019) and now 2021 give us ‘The Downtowner’–Huber’s latest effort which rollicks between social and personal spheres while mixing elements of rock and folk music that fans will immediately see as maintaining a solid continuity of sound and attitude with his previous two albums–rollicking between the feelings of freedom and severity\, with both wit and earnestness. \nMK Ultra \nMK Ultra (est. 2021) is a unique collaboration of Ben Miller (Ben Miller Band) and Pat Kay (The Kay Brothers) born out of the great pandemic. You see…here’s what happens when two fellas like this spend too much time in their shops and start playing “I’ll show you mine if you show me yours.” Miller & Kay\, both renowned torchbearers for Ozark mountain music tradition heretofore\, have basically built themselves some kind of jangle-stomp-time machine. And in it\, together\, have embarked on a journey exploring hillbilly music from a distant future. Banjos meet Synthesizers… Dulcimers meet Wobble… Strange flashing lights… Unexplained phenomena… These industrious builders of cobbled homemade instruments showcase some of their most bizarre implements & soundscapes. The future of the past is here\, and it’s only weird the first time. \nDriveway Thriftdwellers \n“Emotionally ripe\, old school country.” – Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. \n“Like a vintage yard sale that Merle Haggard might have thrown.” Isthmus. \n“Rugged\, straightforward country songwriting.” Tone Madison. \nVocals\, Guitar / Jon Knudson\nPedal Steel\, Vocals / Ryan Knudson\nLead Guitar\, Vocals / Kyle Rightley\nBass\, Vocals / Aaron Collins\nDrums\, Vocals / Jon Storey URL:https://www.high-noon.com/event/joseph-huber-mk-ultra-and-driveway-thriftdwellers/ LOCATION:High Noon Saloon\, 701 East Washington Avenue\, Madison\, 53703 ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.high-noon.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/12/MKUltraHuber-HNS-WEB.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Chicago:20230121T200000 DTEND;TZID=America/Chicago:20230121T233000 DTSTAMP:20240328T065041 CREATED:20221101T150024Z LAST-MODIFIED:20221110T162847Z UID:7947-1674331200-1674343800@www.high-noon.com SUMMARY:Smells Like Nirvana DESCRIPTION:  \n\nCOVID-19 POLICY\nBased on the latest local guidelines\, attendees are no longer required to provide proof of negative COVID-19 test AND/OR vaccination for entry into this event. With its elegant blurring of psychedelia\, dream-pop and electronic-leaning indie-rock\, the Texas-bred singer-songwriter’s ninth solo effort emerged from a charmed collaboration with his Hudson Valley neighbor Sam Cohen\, the sought-after producer known for his work with innovators such as Kevin Morby and Danger Mouse. And while the album often wanders into decidedly cosmic terrain\, Miller grounds each track with the vulnerable songwriting and unaffected vocal presence he’s brought to his role as frontman for legendary alt-country band Old 97’s for the last three decades. The result is a body of work fully attuned to the tension of modern times\, yet imbued with all the lovely delirium of a dreamscape. \nProduced by Cohen at his own Slow Fawn Studios (a former horse farm in the hamlet of Accord)\, The Misfit is deeply rooted in a shared intention to “make a record that lives in a world with no rules\,” according to Miller. “As we were working we kept returning to the relationship between David Bowie and Brian Eno and the records they made together\, and how fearless they were in their approach to finding the songs\,” he adds. In shaping The Misfit’s elaborately detailed sound\, Cohen handled all the instrumentation\, playing guitar\, bass\, drums\, and keys in addition to sculpting the album’s mercurial rhythms and textures with lavish use of synth and drum machines. Featuring the background vocals of Cassandra Jenkins and Annie Nero on several tracks\, the outcome is an unexpected yet undeniably potent setting for Miller’s lyrical storytelling. “One of the things I love about working with Sam is that his instincts are very much complementary to mine\,” says Miller. “He has this ability to create music that’s open and eerie and beautiful\, and at the same time allows for a propulsiveness that makes it feel so vibrant and vital.” \nArriving almost exactly 20 years after The Instigator (his Jon Brion-produced solo major-label debut)\, The Misfit takes its title from a gloriously spacey but self-scrutinizing track called “Just When It Gets Good.” “It was the first song I wrote in the pandemic\, at a time when I didn’t know where I fit anymore\,” he says. “There are always so many voices in our head trying to keep us from making art\, and I was definitely falling prey to their ill effects.” Noting that “feeling like a misfit is the artistic condition\,” Miller ultimately found his sense of purpose wholly restored by the making of The Misfit. “I’ve toyed with some other disciplines\, like writing short-form fiction\, long form fiction\, essays and children’s books\,” says Miller\, whose latest kids’ book The Baby Changing Station is due out this fall from Little Brown Young Readers. “They all fulfill something in me\, but nothing compares to songwriting. The idea that you can sit down and create a whole universe and then put it out into the world—the joy I get from that quick-hit creation will always be unmatched for me.” URL:https://www.high-noon.com/event/rhett-miller/ LOCATION:High Noon Saloon\, 701 East Washington Avenue\, Madison\, 53703 ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/png:https://www.high-noon.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Web-7.png END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Chicago:20230127T200000 DTEND;TZID=America/Chicago:20230127T233000 DTSTAMP:20240328T065041 CREATED:20221108T160049Z LAST-MODIFIED:20230127T230638Z UID:7985-1674849600-1674862200@www.high-noon.com SUMMARY:Church of Cash DESCRIPTION:  \n\nCOVID-19 POLICY\nBased on the latest local guidelines\, attendees are no longer required to provide proof of negative COVID-19 test AND/OR vaccination for entry into this event. With a unique blend of jazz\, rock\, Latin\, bluegrass\, classical\, and even metal\, Mungion is known for a sound that often defies classification; it’s simply phenomenal all on its own. \nIfdakar \n2022 marks Ifdakar’s 15th year together. What started as a high school friends jam session has evolved into an undeniable force in the Midwestern original music scene. Known for their high energy live shows and massive catalog of unique and engaging material\, the Appleton based rock group has cemented their legacy as original music trailblazers with a decade and a half’s worth of boundary pushing sonic exploration under their belt. \nAt its core\, Ifdakar is a rock and roll band\, through and through. But it’s their ability to shift stylistic gears in the blink of an eye that keeps fans coming back for more. One moment they’re soaring through an intense peak\, and the next they’re navigating a delicate\, soulful introspection\, or bouncing along to a driving techno beat. All the while\, the spirit of rock and roll hums just below the surface\, awaiting its moment to burst through and take center stage. \nIfdakar’s resume is filled with noteworthy accomplishments and career achievements. To name a few\, their most recent album was produced by Jake Cinninger of Umphrey’s McGee and Willie Waldman from Death Row Records. “Lion’s Share”\, the band’s third studio album\, was recorded at Cinninger’s studio in Southern Michigan\, and Cinninger and Waldman both perform on the album as well. Ifdakar is a regular at the Midwest mega-fest Summer Camp\, returning in 2022 for their 8th straight year. In 2010\, the band started their own promotion and production company called WIJAM\, which has since become synonymous with original music in their home state of Wisconsin and beyond. The band also spearheads their own large multi-genre campout\, the Moon Dance Music Festival. Ifdakar has shared the stage with some of the biggest industry heavyweights including Spafford\, Particle\, EOTO\, Primus\, Wookiefoot\, Conspirator\, The Werks\, Aqueous\, and countless more national\, regional\, and local artists. \nIfdakar is heading into their crystal anniversary year with a renewed hunger to spread their music further and wider than they ever have before. And as the catalog of original music continues to swell\, and the band continues to explore new and exciting soundscapes\, there’s no telling where the music will take them. Their third studio album\, For the Birds\, is ambitious and captures vigorous\, rock ‘n’ roll energy with elements of country and southern rock. From classic to contemporary rock\, these are songs that could appeal to the disparate fanbases of Gary Stewart\, Joe Walsh\, Rival Sons\, or Chris Cornell. \nAmerican Songwriter called For The Birds\, “Exploratory… Traversing through uncharted sonic territory” and Raised Rowdy proclaims\, “There is a ton of excitement building around Read Southall Band at the moment.” Riff Magazine notes\, “Read Southall Band combines the heavy guitars of the late- and post-grunge era with southern rock vocals and a country music sensibility to create a sound outside the expectations of any of those genres by themselves.” \n“I don’t think we would be a band without this album\,” says frontman Southall. “I think for a while we were just focused on touring\, getting out there and we didn’t take care of the music as needed. In a way\, we needed that year off the road. We made an album and just worked. We refocused and decided this is what we want to be doing.” \nSouthall and his bandmates understand that the album’s long gestation and their sonic shifts may take some adjustment for fans. But that excited uncertainty is reflected in the new album’s title. “We came up with For the Birds because it’s been so long and we were worried that nobody’s waiting for us\,” says Southall. “So maybe this record is ‘for the birds.’ If you like it\, you like it. It is what it is. For us\, it’s six individuals making tunes.” URL:https://www.high-noon.com/event/read-southall/ LOCATION:High Noon Saloon\, 701 East Washington Avenue\, Madison\, 53703 ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/png:https://www.high-noon.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/Web-6.png END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Chicago:20230204T130000 DTEND;TZID=America/Chicago:20230204T140000 DTSTAMP:20240328T065041 CREATED:20221222T152637Z LAST-MODIFIED:20221222T183805Z UID:8115-1675515600-1675519200@www.high-noon.com SUMMARY:Bob Marley Birthday Bash (Kids Show) DESCRIPTION:  \n\nCOVID-19 POLICY\nBased on the latest local guidelines\, attendees are no longer required to provide proof of negative COVID-19 test AND/OR vaccination for entry into this event.
