That’s a kind of contest.\nOne by one\, 10 contestants have two minutes each to make puns based on prompts they have received ahead of time. Each contestant is immediately judged by five members of the audience\, who have been selected before the show to be judges. They rank each punner on a scale of 1 to 10\, often with hilariously long decimals and other commentary.\nThen they do it again\, only this time contestants get their prompts on stage and only have 30 second to think and another two minutes to make puns.\nThe top four contestants go head to head in a final pun-off.\n\n\n—————————————————-\n\nPlease note that High Noon Saloon\, Majestic Theatre\, Orpheum Theater\, and The Sylvee are requiring all fans to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours OR full vaccination for entry to all events at the venue moving forward. For help in channeling that complexity of feeling\, the Austin-based singer/songwriter/guitarist explored and obliterated the boundaries of rock-and-roll and modern pop\, mining equal inspiration from the likes of Judas Priest and Ariana Grande in her bold but masterful genre-bending. Produced by Michael Shuman of Queens of the Stone Age and Mini Mansions\, the resulting body of work finds Wolfe upending the conventions of each genre\, ultimately arriving at a guitar-drenched sound that’s wildly unpredictable and immediately magnetic. \nThe follow-up to her self-titled debut album (a 2019 release produced by Ben Tanner of Alabama Shakes)\, which featured the single “Holy Roller\,” Outlier came to life in Shuman’s garage in Los Angeles\, where Wolfe was joined by her longtime bandmates Evan Nicholson (bass) and Clellan Hyatt (drums). After completing basic tracking for the songs\, Wolfe and Shuman layered on new and unexpected textures with the help of programmed drums and beautifully warped synth tones. \n““Outlier” is a different direction for me musically\,” says Wolfe.” I wanted to try something new and different. I wanted to step outside of the blues-rock box and see what else could happen. This record is my attempt at crossing genres between classic ’70s rock\, ’80s pop\, ’90s grunge\, and modern pop elements of today. I wanted to see how far I could push my boundaries musically\, while still holding onto my integrity as a guitar player first and foremost. This album is a huge indicator of where I’m headed as an artist — my goal is to create well-crafted rock songs with polished pop production\, but stay true to myself as a lover of guitar solos.” \nIf 2021 weren’t busy enough – landing a label deal; Outlier’s release; the launch of her signature guitar by Gibson/Epiphone; multiple TV sync placements; returning to performing and touring; and writing for her next album – the year may pale in comparison to what’s next in 2022. With the new project\, the NYC staple connects with Navy Blue\, one of the most refreshing young\, acclaimed rapper/producers to break out in recent years\, for a project that pushes each of their talents to new heights. Wiki’s storytelling as the city’s young OG has never been more vivid and Navy Blue’s production pushes further into every sonic corner he’s explored today\, providing a perfect canvas for Wiki’s signature voice. The release marks Wiki’s second full-length release of 2021 after releasing the Nah-produced Telephonebooth earlier this year. \nWiki has become a fixture of New York City Hip Hop since\, at 17 years old\, he founded the boundary defying group Ratking\, whose aggressive style represented a new generation of city kids and artists\, hungry for innovation and raw energy. The epicenter of the group as well as Wiki’s artistic expression through music and style was Chinatown\, downtown NYC. Ratking’s breakout single was called “Canal” named after the iconic\, bustling Chinatown street. Coming of age in the neighborhood\, living there for years while creating his solo albums\, inevitably laced his music with the culture that permeates the singularly New York\, Chinese neighborhood. His song Chinatown Swing off his first LP No Mountains in Manhattan paints a picture of walking through the neighborhood and the feelings and sites one encounters. When painting lyrical pictures of New York scenes one gets a sense of Wiki’s skill as a story teller and visionary. He has solidified his role in carrying the torch for NYC’s master MC’s; representing for the freaks\, weirdos and underbelly culture. \nAlongside revealing the release date of his new album\, the NYC rapper also shares the announcement of an upcoming collaboration with the brand Warrior Shanghai\, which will feature a customized merch line with sneakers\, jerseys\, t-shirts\, and caps. The Warriors brand brings a classic\, everyday life\, hard-souled sense of style and functionality to the table in a way that connects with Wiki’s art\, and upbringing. Wiki’s collaboration with the brand was intended to pay homage to these characteristics\, calling on Wiki to utilize an art project that began as a visual identity in the Ratking days: the Wiki Flag. The green and orange are derived from his mother’s Irish heritage\, while set in the shape of the Puerto Rican flag to honor his paternal roots; two ancestries that\, like Chinese\, are vital to New York City culture and history. \nAdditionally\, Wiki will play a set of shows in NYC following the album’s release on October 8th at Soho Roof and on November 7th at Knockdown Center in support of Armand Hammer also with Navy Blue\, Quelle Chris\, Saint Mela\, Fielded\, KAYANA and Dreamcrusher. The phrasing is\nbrief but says everything about adjusting to young adulthood — and beyond. The world places\ninfinite pressure on us to have a plan for the future\, but\, as Wild Rivers eloquently articulate\nthroughout Sidelines\, it’s healthier to acknowledge — and even embrace — the not knowing.\nComprising Khalid Yassein [guitar\, vocals\, keys]\, Devan Glover [vocals]\, and Andrew Oliver\n[lead guitar\, synths]\, Toronto’s Wild Rivers have a gift for penning introspective lyrics and\ngenre-fluid melodies that transmit wisdom beyond their years. The 10-track Sidelines\,\nco-produced by Peter Katis (The National\, Interpol\, Sharon van Etten) and Wild Rivers and\nrecorded in Connecticut\, Los Angeles and Khalid and Devan’s college town of Kingston\,\nOntario\, touches on coming-of-age themes\, such as learning how to be more present and\ncoming to terms with life’s unpredictability. \nIn many ways\, the group’s own story is one about embracing the unknown. Born in Canada\,\nKhalid\, who is half-Egyptian\, and Devan\, who spent her childhood in London\, England before\nreturning to Canada\, first connected at Queen’s University in Kingston in 2013. Starting out as\nan acoustic singer-songwriter project\, Khalid and Devan expanded their aesthetic to a more\nfull-bodied sound\, adding multi-instrumentalist Andrew\, who Khalid calls their “Swiss army\nknife.” \nTogether\, right before their first show\, the band decided on the name Wild Rivers “in a Subway\nrestaurant\,” laughs Andrew. “Our friends were going to be there and there was a lot of pressure\non making a big reveal\, just cause we had really left it to the last minute\,” adds Devan. “There\nwasn’t too much thought put into it. We just were like\, ‘okay\, this sounds cool. I’m going to get a\nfoot-long’”. \nA portrait of their early post-college years\, Sidelines is where Wild Rivers poured their collective\nimpressions about merging into their mid-20s — a strange\, liminal age where it’s easy to\nromanticize childhood. Sidelines\, according to Andrew\, looks back longingly upon “the time\nwhen you are truly present and you’re not having this forward-thinking vision where you’re\nworried about the next thing.” \n“A lot of [Sidelines] is about perspective and longing to be somewhere that you’re not\, or trying\nto figure out how to get to a place that you want to be\, whether it’s physically\, emotionally\,” says\nDevan. “I think we’re all kind of struggling with our sense of identity\, in the stage of life that we’re\nin.” \nSonically\, Wild Rivers pull from a spectrum of sounds\, imbuing pop\, rock\, indie\, and folk into\neach song’s blueprint. “We all listen to a wide range of music\, from hip-hop to indie rock to pop\,”\nDevan says. “We like to pull our favorite parts of every genre and patch them together and see\nwhat works and see what feels good.” \nThe contemplative\, keys-driven “Long Time” digs into the divisions between head and heart\,\ntelling a story about hearing from an ex for the first time in months. “It’s from the perspective of a\ncouple of years post-breakup\,” says Khalid\, whose gentle voice forms a perfect harmony with\nDevan’s on the track. “You’re growing up / while I’m in a rut\,” they sing together\, neatly\nencapsulating the insecurities most of us feel when faced with when an ex-lover comes back\ninto the picture. \nElsewhere\, in a co-write with Nashville singer-songwriter Caitlyn Smith\, “Neon Stars” is a\nnostalgic\, wistful acoustic ballad about young love. “Singing with Caitlyn was very surreal and\nfun\,” says Khalid. ““As a writer\, she really excels at visual storytelling. There’s just a lot of lines\nthat paint a very specific picture of the nostalgia that we’re talking about.”\nMeanwhile\, the mid-tempo “Bedrock\,” which settles in with easy drumbeats and smooth vocal\nharmonies\, considers the way hard times have a way of always showing up. “The song came\nout of a period of depression\,” says Khalid. “Even after you check all of the boxes\, practice\nmindfulness\, drink eight glasses of water a day\, it can still rear its ugly head. This is the moment\nwhere you throw your hands up and give in to it. This song is like the catharsis that comes with\nthat feeling.” \nThe mood brightens on “Stubborn Heart\,” which showcases a jangling\, sing-along melody and\nbreezy rhythm. Written in the artistic community of Los Angeles’ Echo Park\, where the trio\nrented a house for a few months to write\, ““Stubborn Heart is a moment of levity in the album\,”\nKhalid says. “It’s about trying to coax someone out of a fight\, making jokes and making light of\nthings until you both get over it.” \nSidelines also captures Wild Rivers’ collective sense of humor\, on the upbeat\, crisply strummed\n“Weatherman.” “I think we were joking about how being a weatherman is the chillest job ever\,”\nDevan reveals. “Because you could be wrong 90% of the time and you don’t lose your job.”\n“Your perception of a sure thing is rarely a sure thing\,” adds Khalid. “It’s more fruitful to just live\nlife in the moment and take everything as it goes. It’s okay to be wrong.” \nAs they embark on the next chapter of their journey\, Wild Rivers\, who first caught audiences’\nattention with their 2016 self-titled debut\, followed by two EPs (2018’s Eighty-Eight and 2020’s\nSongs To Break Up To)\, are especially eager to take Sidelines on the road. The live setting is\nwhere they originally cultivated a dedicated following and opening for celebrated acts like The\nPaper Kites\, Donovan Woods and Jake Bugg. Building an authentic relationship with fans\, while\nchanneling classic singer-songwriters like James Taylor and Fleetwood Mac\, has been vital to\nWild Rivers’ connection with audiences. \n“We’ve been fan-facing rather than industry facing\,” Khalid explains. “I think most of the success\nwe’ve had up to this point is because of that. Music fans find us.” URL:https://www.high-noon.com/event/wild-rivers/ LOCATION:High Noon Saloon\, 701 East Washington Avenue\, Madison\, 53703 ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.high-noon.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/WR.Shoot2_.67-credit-Samuel-Kojo-1-scaled.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Chicago:20220201T200000 DTEND;TZID=America/Chicago:20220201T200000 DTSTAMP:20240328T035240 CREATED:20211004T172718Z LAST-MODIFIED:20220201T234647Z UID:4127-1643745600-1643745600@www.high-noon.com SUMMARY:Samia DESCRIPTION:Unfortunately Samia is unable to sing tonight and must CANCEL her performance at High Noon Saloon. More details available here. \nSamia’s 2020 debut album\, The Baby\, was a testament to her impressive vocal might\, irresistible tunefulness and\nvulnerable lyricism\, both clever and illuminating in equal measure. Drawing widespread acclaim from Pitchfork\,\nStereogum\, NPR\, NME\, The Sunday Times\, and others\, the LP more than delivered following the promise of\nearly singles like 2018’s “Django” and 2019’s “Ode to Artifice.” After emerging as one of the most exciting\nup-and-comers in indie rock\, Samia released a companion album this past January titled The Baby Reimagined\, a\ncollection of covers and remixes featuring Bartees Strange\, Anjimile\, Field Medic\, Palehound\, former tourmate\nDonna Missal\, and more. \nSamia spent much of 2020 in self-reflection\, and she also made various life changes that left her feeling more\nearnest and centered. “I got back into therapy and started thinking about boundaries\, I moved to Nashville\, I did\nyoga sometimes\,” she says. During this time\, she wrote a handful of songs that make up Scout\, a new EP out\ndigitally on July 23. “These were pretty much the only four songs that came naturally during this time\, but I\nthink they really mirror my emotional experience this past year\,” Samia says.\nWhile The Baby leaned more on self-deprecating humor\, Scout was born out of a need to “honor feeling secure in\nwhat [she] had to say.” Lead track “As You Are” revels in the preciousness of unconditional love (“When\nsomebody loves you / They take you as you are\,” she belts in the chorus) and floats delicately with graceful vocals\nand steady percussion. Staticky guitar number “Show Up” is an acknowledgment of personal growth\, and its\nunwavering desire for wholesome joy really tugs at the heartstrings (“Nothing could ever stop / my ass from\nshowing up / to sing another song for the people I love”). The EP is packed with reverence for life’s ups and\ndowns\, but more than anything\, it’s an ode to loved ones. \nThe compassionate glow of this EP partially stems from her new Nashville surroundings\, as well as her recent\nexperiences “feeling genuinely loved\, making new friends\, and holding onto old friendships.” There’s a palpable\nintimacy to these recordings\, whether it’s the voicemail murmurs of “As You Are\,” the heart-on-your-sleeve lyrics\nor the piano twinkles throughout. It’s reminiscent of that reassuring exhale in the mirror after an imperfect yet\nfulfilling day. As Samia puts it\, Scout is “The Baby’s slightly older sister letting her know that everything is gonna\nbe alright.” \nThe EP title is a nickname of Samia’s\, and it’s a fitting nod to the record’s benevolence. “My partner calls me\nScout\,” she explains. “It’s just a word that implies bravery to me. I always picture a little girl with a sash and\nbadges basking in her autonomy selling Samoas.” Whether you’re a girl scout trying to gain confidence or an\nadult who needs reminders of our inability to make everyone happy (“Elephant”) or the untold power of being\nthere for someone (“The Promise”)\, this EP is an unashamed loving nudge. \n  URL:https://www.high-noon.com/event/samia/ LOCATION:High Noon Saloon\, 701 East Washington Avenue\, Madison\, 53703 ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.high-noon.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/58c77fb7-97d5-40cc-8dca-ae3780b818b2_1523391_TABLET_LANDSCAPE_LARGE_16_9-hChrqi.tmp_.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Chicago:20220203T200000 DTEND;TZID=America/Chicago:20220203T200000 DTSTAMP:20240328T035240 CREATED:20211112T165643Z LAST-MODIFIED:20220203T214222Z UID:4988-1643918400-1643918400@www.high-noon.com SUMMARY:Aaron Kamm and the One Drops DESCRIPTION:Aaron Kamm and the One Drops at High Noon Saloon on February 3\, 2022  has been rescheduled to October 1\, 2022. It takes place at Harmony Park\, an epic\, lakeside oak grove that offers gorgeous camping options. \nTo check out this year’s lineup and find more info about the fest go here: revivalfestmn.com/ \n \n𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐅𝐞𝐞𝐝 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐨𝐠: \nFeed the Dog is an eclectic and action-packed\, experimental jam-grass act. The midwest based 4-piece masterfully blends soul-pleasing songwriting rich in imagery and storytelling with a genre bending\, shake-your-hips\, instrumental flair. Their high energy performances are driven by the unique and progressive approach of each player: imaginative melodies with graceful ambiance skillfully crafted on the violin\, tireless beats both dynamic and soulful confidently assembled on the drums\, driving low end with finesse and intention forged on the bass guitar\, and unique approach to playing the acoustic guitar blending fast picking bluegrass runs with the strength of blues and rock to evoke an emotional contrast between melancholy and hopeful. \nThe band started in July of 2015 and has been relentlessly playing festivals\, theaters\, and clubs alongside regional and national touring acts. \n“Ding Dang” the band’s third full length album released September 2021\, out now. \n  \n𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐞𝐝𝐥𝐚𝐦: \nGood Morning Bedlam has become an innovative force in the midwest folk scene. Their shows are known for their contagious energy\, with members careening about the stage\, jumping and dancing with a wild playfulness. With tight soaring three part harmonies\, and thumping kick-drum\, they captivate their audience night after night with no intention of slowing down. Every song is a unique twist on what is generally dubbed as folk music. “We want to surprise our audience from song to song. Rather than creating our music to fit a genre\, we allow it to be an outpouring of our own stories and unique sound\,” says Isaak\, frontman of GMB. Just when you think you have Good Morning Bedlam pegged\, they take you in another direction. You will be treated to a haunting waltz\, whistling\, jazz scatting\, and the euphoria of the violin melodies. When it comes to their lyrical storytelling\, Isaak says\, “We’re desperate to connect to people through the common human experiences that we write about and the exuberance of our live show. People have a lot of choices of how they’ll kick-back\, so we intend to deliver a show where they can be free–to share in whatever they need to–joy\, grief\, anger\, gratefulness\, or bedlam!” \nGood Morning Bedlam released their sophomore album\, Like Kings\, in July of 2018. In June of 2019\, GMB ended their first full touring year of two-hundred-plus shows by winning first place at the John Hartford Memorial Festival Band Competition. \n  \nPlease note that The Sylvee\, High Noon Saloon\, Majestic Theatre\, and Orpheum Theater are requiring all fans to provide proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of the show.
