It takes its name from the lyric that stands as a thesis for the entire album\, a beautiful and haunting rumination on the pitfalls and pressures of traditional masculinity and on band founder Alex Schaaf’s drive toward vulnerability and tenderness as core tenets of his being. \nThe album’s ten tracks represent the first new music in seven years to be released by Schaaf under the Yellow Ostrich moniker\, since he paused the project to explore new musical identities on a handful of excellent self-released albums (from which much of the best music is included on the stellar compilation Like A Bird: An Alex Schaaf Anthology 2010-20211). \nIdentities – whether externally-defined or those we manufacture for ourselves – are central preoccupations for Schaaf\, who elegantly examines desire\, the search for connection\, and the sometimes-blurry boundaries between platonic and romantic closeness and distance. He meditates on the emotional aches and physical bruises that we all carry and long to heal\, and tries to find ways to communicate things that are hard to say to ourselves and to those closest to us. \nHe notes\, “When you’re translating an experience into a song\, it can sometimes get at something more accurate and universal than trying to express that feeling in a face-to-face conversation… at least for introverts like me.” \nBorn and raised in small-town Wisconsin and recently returned to his midwestern roots in Minneapolis after a half-decade in New York City and on the road\, Schaaf’s path has led to both clarity of purpose as a writer and musician\, and to the acceptance that there will always be truths between people and within \nourselves that lie just out of reach. Prodding the structures that he and we have grown comfortable with\, he worries that he’s actually shackled by them\, and wonders why freeing himself can be difficult. Whereas he used to focus on romanticized heartbreak and conflict to fuel his more personal songs\, now he wants to put an end to our obsessions with the conventional emotional trappings of masculinity\, friendship\, and love and writes about trying to be better – both to himself and to others. \nBinary ideas of attraction and sexuality are frequent thematic targets\, embodied in ambiguous relationships like those with the subjects of lead single “Julia” or the warm manifestos “Timothy” and “John\,” and in the blunt analysis of desire in “Birds.” And on album closer “Too Much Love\,” he celebrates the presence of internalized emotional extremes while also lamenting the habitual urge to suppress them: “Warm blood spills / from my eyes / ‘cause I’ve got love / too much love to hide.” \nThe task of opening up and building bonds with other people instead of building more emotional armor over time takes work\, and it requires like-minded collaborators\, trusted friends\, and love. Schaaf has long been a consummate assembler of outstanding supporting players to help realize his musical vision\, and for the recording of Soft he enlisted the help of a few friends\, including drummer Marian Li-Pino (La Luz\, Donna Missal)\, bassist Megan Mahoney (Lissie)\, guitarist Mike Noyce (Bon Iver\, Tallest Man on Earth)\, and studio and mix engineer Zach Hanson (Bon Iver\, Gordi\, Whitney\, Waxahatchee\, Hand Habits)\, with a guest appearance on album standout “Los Angeles” by the returning Yellow Ostrich member and great multi-instrumentalist Jon Natchez (David Byrne\, The War on Drugs). \nThe result is a sound that feels warm and effortless but packs a real sonic weight. Pitch-shifted vocals\, subtle electronic treatments\, and drum machines skirt the edges of an otherwise traditional guitar-band setup\, adding more varied textures while hinting at wilder emotional currents underneath a placid surface. \nOn Soft\, despite all the potential volatility of life lived with other people and the challenges of navigating our own self-inflicted limitations\, Schaaf is beginning to feel content with the person he is… while remaining eager to keep growing. “I’m proud of the way I am\,” he says\, before adding\, “even if my definition of that changes every day.” URL:https://www.high-noon.com/event/yellow-ostrich/ LOCATION:High Noon Saloon\, 701 East Washington Avenue\, Madison\, 53703 ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.high-noon.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/77998ACE-9A4C-4F5C-86C2-B53C8938D066-6-scaled.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Chicago:20220806T120000 DTEND;TZID=America/Chicago:20220806T130000 DTSTAMP:20240328T135020 CREATED:20220518T185507Z LAST-MODIFIED:20220518T185507Z UID:7507-1659787200-1659790800@www.high-noon.com SUMMARY:Girls Rock Camp Showcase DESCRIPTION:Girls Rock Camp Madison is a one-week day camp for girls ages 8-18 where campers learn an instrument\, write a song and perform it at this amazing end-of-camp showcase. Emerging on a fresh platform to share their unique blend of great American music. \nFormerly touring under the name “Blackfoot Gypsies”\, they have dropped the old name but kept the same spirit. A spirit arising from a life dedicated to Rock-n-Roll. The group established a loyal fanbase across the US and Europe\, while releasing a catalogue of music documenting their journey. After going through inevitable changes over the course of hundreds of shows and thousands of miles – it only felt right right to start a new book\, with a sharper sense of who they are and what they’re doing. \nDeeOhGee is now comprised of Matthew Paige\, Zack Murphy\, and Dylan Whitlow. Each member contributes songs and brings different musical expertise to the table. These 3 musicians cover a huge spectrum of instruments – everything from timpani to pianos and banjos to harmoniums. Every single note and voice you hear on their recordings\, is them. No studio musicians. They are beyond dedicated to their craft and eagerly work toward giving the world their life’s work. Collecting vibrations from every walk of life in this world and turning them into a hummable tune\, with a wink of humor. Now\, after all these years of honing their craft\, the music is a concentrated serum exported from their souls\, for all to share and enjoy. DeeOhGee is a band of people\, made of people\, for the people. \n  \n  \n★ 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗞𝗦 ★ \n \nThe Minks are Nashville’s “psychedelic-blues” band\, heavy on the rock and roll. We’re talking low-down\, all the way\, purse-lipped\, eyes-shut\, head-whirling kind of groove. In 2015\, on a search for creative community\, Nikki Barber started the band based on the idea that “if you don’t create\, you’ll combust”. Just like a rock and roll circus\, you never know what you’re going to get\, but you know it’ll be good. The band’s palpable sound has roots in every music fan’s top ten—from Lou to Patti to Creedence to Hank – but blends them into something totally original and current. Mixed with raw\, jangly instrumentation and soulful saccharine vocals\, it’s as much a throwback as it is an answer to the often overlooked underbelly of Nashville’s rock and roll scene. Look for them\, on tour forever\, spreading the gospel of letting your hair down and having a good time. \n  \nBased on the latest local guidelines\, attendees are no longer required to provide proof of negative COVID-19 test AND/OR vaccination for entry into this event. Other shows on our calendar may still have specific health and safety requirements based on artist request.  Be sure to check our venue website for the latest updates and guidelines as entry requirements are subject to change. By the time she was 14\, she was starting to write her own music. “when you grow up in a small town in southern Wisconsin there isn’t much to do.  Music was my escape’.  \nAfter countless family picnic\, church performances and local singing contest wins\, it was time for something bigger. Anna was growing restless. The world was calling…literally.  \n \nInterscope Records showed interest in Anna soon after she arrived in LA age 16. They had their eyes set on her becoming the world’s next pop superstar. She started writing and recording with many notable writers and producers of the time\, successfully getting her music placed on MTV.  \n \nWhile things went well\, they weren’t exactly going the way she envisioned. So after 4 years she hit the reset button and followed her gut to get her college degree. She wanted to expand her knowledge of the music industry. She studied Music Business at Augsburg University\, completing her degree in London\, England while she worked for a record label\, LoMax Records.  \n \nBut once her degree was completed\, life managed to take over and music slowly took a backseat. “I felt like a part of me was dying and I wasn’t sure how to start the fire again”. \n \nIt took a global pandemic to clear the way for her to find time for her passion again.  \n \nDuring Covid she started recording covers and releasing them online. After seeing one of her videos Minneapolis songwriter\, Brian Kroening\, reached out and asked if she would be interested in collaborating. Kroening was an accomplished songwriter with multiple Billboard charting songs with his band Rocket Club. “Within an hour of meeting Anna\, we were writing our first song\, recalls Kroening. She had great energy and there was an instant musical chemistry”  \nThey began writing and recording with Tony Cerniglia of Soul Mine Music Company. According to Cerniglia the songs were pouring out faster than we could record them. They quickly found a sound that is hard to define but even harder to ignore. They had a hard-charging rock sensibility with a country soul. \n \nAnna is releasing her new songs and sound in an album collection called “Restless Spirit” An apropos title for that little girl from southern Wisconsin who didn’t let the world get between her and her music. We’re probably the favorite band of someone you know and yet maybe we’re still a mystery to you. Well my friend\, that’s okay\, you’re at the right place to get to know the greatest rock-n-roll band in the world\, The Supersuckers. \nThe brand new album\, “Holdin’ the Bag”\, offers a compelling blend of brawny badassery and sensitive songcraft on such memorable originals as the high-lonesome title track\, which kicks the album off on a deceptively spooky note.  You also get the rousingly twangy anthems “High and Outside\,” “Man on a Mission” and “Jibber-Jabber.”   Then the album closes on a thoughtful note\, with an update of the Hank Williams Jr. standard “All My Rowdy Friends (Have Settled Down)\,” with updated lyrics that refer to such Supersuckers contemporaries as Steve Earle and Lemmy Kilminster of Motorhead. (The album sessions also yielded a second cover tune\, a spirited reading of the Billy Joe Shaver classic “Georgia on a Fast Train\,” which will be included as a bonus track on Holdin the Bag’s vinyl edition.) \nThe Supersuckers — Eddie on vocals and bass\, plus guitarist Marty Chandler and drummer Chris Von Streicher — recorded Holdin’ the Bag in Austin\, TX\, at Ray Benson’s esteemed Bismeaux Studios.   They were joined by such kindred spirits as outlaw singer-songwriter Hayes Carll\, who’s featured on the rollicking hard-luck tale “This Life Would Be a Whole Lot Better\,” and acclaimed alt-country songstress Lydia Loveless\, who adds her distinctive voice to the bittersweet “I Can’t Cry.”   Also lending their talents are Asleep at the Wheel fiddler Jason Roberts\, Butthole Surfers member Jeff Pinkus\, noted neo-honky-tonker Jesse Dayton and Willie Nelson’s longtime harmonica sidekick Mickey Raphael. \nFACEBOOK // OFFICIAL WEBSITE // YOUTUBE URL:https://www.high-noon.com/event/supersuckers/ LOCATION:High Noon Saloon\, 701 East Washington Avenue\, Madison\, 53703 ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.high-noon.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/ElectricSupersixers-HNS-WEB-1.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Chicago:20220816T200000 DTEND;TZID=America/Chicago:20220816T233000 DTSTAMP:20240328T135020 CREATED:20220426T150322Z LAST-MODIFIED:20220426T150322Z UID:7392-1660680000-1660692600@www.high-noon.com SUMMARY:The Toasters - 4 Decades In Ska DESCRIPTION:“In my opinion\, The Toasters are to ska in America the 1980s and beyond what The Specials were to ska in the U.K. in the late ’70s and early ’80s\, and what the Skatalites were to ska in Jamaica in the 1960s. The Toasters were innovators\, creators\, shapers of the music\, evolving it in a fresh direction\, blending it with the cultural influences in a very American manner\, and I mean that in a completely complimentary way. Just as Byron Lee & the Dragonaires brought professionalism and polish to ska\, allowing others to benefit from the fruits of their labor\, so too did the Toasters’ music allow numerous other bands to share in the spotlight of skill and success\, many of whom have gone on to great heights. Upon the shoulders of giants. \nOh\, yeah\, and they kick ass!” -Heather Augustyn\, Author of SKA \, An Oral History \nAfter nearly 4 decades\, The Toasters are hitting the gas\, not the brakes. With an international all-star line-up their whirlwind global tour continues unabated across the continents. Performances are scheduled in South America\, Asia and Russia on top of regular touring in the USA\, Europe and Canada. \nFormed on the Lower East Side of NYC the band is the longest running US SKA formation. They bridge the gap between England’s 2-Tone movement and the American Ska explosion of the 90’s which they are rightfully credited with starting. During the 3rd Wave Ska revival The Toasters formed the famous Moon Records label and kick-started the careers of dozens of bands. \n  \n  \nBased on the latest local guidelines\, attendees are no longer required to provide proof of negative COVID-19 test AND/OR vaccination for entry into this event. Other shows on our calendar may still have specific health and safety requirements based on artist request. Be sure to check our venue website for the latest updates and guidelines as entry requirements are subject to change. In a departure from the guitar-and-notebook-based approach to songwriting that shaped his earlier work\, the Nashville-based artist followed his curiosity to countless other modes of expression\, experimenting with everything from piano to effects pedals to old-school drum machines (a fascination partly inspired by the early-’70s innovations of Sly Stone and J.J. Cale). As those explorations deepened and broadened his musical vision\, Millsap soon arrived at a body of work touched with both unbridled imagination and lucid insight into the search for presence in a chaotic world. \nProduced by John Agnello (Kurt Vile\, Sonic Youth\, Waxahatchee) and mainly recorded live with Millsap’s full band\, Be Here Instead marks a stylistic shift from the gritty and high-energy folk of his previous output\, including 2018’s acclaimed Other Arrangements and 2016’s The Very Last Day (an Americana Music Association Awards nominee for Album of the Year). With its adventurous yet immaculately detailed sonic palette\, the album warps genres to glorious effect\, at one point offering up what Millsap aptly refers to as a “disco-Americana showtune.” In another creative breakthrough\, Be Here Instead forgoes the character-driven storytelling of his past in favor of a more introspective and endlessly revelatory form of lyricism\, an element he traces back to the charmed nature of his songwriting process. “Because the lyrics were appearing seemingly out of nowhere and with no prior intent\, some of them started to feel like transmissions from my subconscious\, rather than the preconceived linear stories or waking thoughts of my earlier songs\,” says Millsap. “They feel like words I needed to hear from myself\, and not just things I wanted to say to someone else.” \nOn “The Real Thing”—the luminous lead single to Be Here Instead—Millsap presents a brilliant introduction to the album’s kaleidoscopic sound\, merging the song’s cascading guitar lines and potent grooves with a tender statement of devotion (e.g.\, “I been through your roses\, honey/I don’t mind the thorns”). Sparked from an experiment in open tuning and featuring guest vocals from Erin Rae\, the track gracefully transforms a moment of private longing into a bit of prescient commentary. “I wrote ‘The Real Thing’ when I was touring and missing my wife\, and hating how being on FaceTime doesn’t feel anything like being in the same room\,” says Millsap. “But then as 2020 happened\, the lyrics grew new teeth—now it’s much more of a reflection of how hard it is to experience any spontaneous interaction when everything happens on livestreams and Zoom.” \nIn its candid meditation on the intricacies of connection\, Be Here Instead also delivers standouts like “Vulnerable\,” a lushly textured piece of psychedelic soul threaded with elegantly simple wisdom. “I wrote that one when I was newly married\,” says Millsap. “Something about standing in front of a room of people and saying ‘This is the one’ gave everything an extra weight\, and made me think about how I’m still learning to openly communicate what I’m feeling. Because if you hold back instead of just being honest\, eventually it’s going to come out in some other way. So the best practice is just to be vulnerable—it’s never really worth it to try to be tough.” \nAnother track demonstrating the sheer power of Millsap’s artistic impulse\, “Dammit” began as a complex and slow-paced ballad\, then evolved into a kinetic two-chord anthem (thanks in part to a failed attempt at creating a U2-like number\, as per Agnello’s suggestion). One of the album’s most majestic moments\, “Dammit” unfolds as an unlikely epic that perfectly captures the nuances of existential frustration (“It’s hard to be a dancer\, baby\, when you’re living in your head”) while working up a furious momentum that’s nothing less than exhilarating. \nAlthough Be Here Instead often finds Millsap wandering into new terrain\, the album remains firmly grounded in the sophisticated musicianship he began honing as a kid growing up in the small town of Purcell. Raised on Texas singer/songwriters like Townes Van Zandt\, he started writing songs on acoustic guitar in his early teens\, then made his debut at the age of 19 with the 2012 album Palisade. With his self-titled sophomore effort arriving in 2014\, Millsap released both The Very Last Day and Other Arrangements to widespread praise\, with famed rock critic Ann Powers dubbing him a “star in the making” and Rolling Stone stating that the latter album “mingle[s] the sacred and profane to rollicking effect.” Through the years\, he’s also made his name as a captivating live act\, opening for the likes of Jason Isbell\, Patty Griffin\, and Lucinda Williams and taking the stage at major festivals like Bonnaroo\, Austin City Limits\, and Newport Folk Fest. And in a particularly memorable turn of events\, Millsap joined singer/songwriter Sarah Jarosz for a 2016 show in Atlanta and drew raves from none other than Sir Elton John\, who hailed the performance as “one of the best concerts I have ever seen” and noted that the night “restored my faith in music.” \nIn looking back on the making of Be Here Instead\, Millsap points out that his recently discovered love of painting also informed the free-flowing creativity he brought to the album. “My wife’s grandfather was an artist who did watercolor paintings\, and a few years ago I decided I wanted to try it\,” he says. “I very quickly found out that watercolors are really hard to work with: you have to embrace your mistakes\, and then let them guide you along. It’s made me think about how when you mess up\, you’re basically revealing your humanity\, which is what music’s all about. When I listen to records\, I love when Ray Charles’s voice cracks\, or when you hear the squeaking of the kick-drum pedal on a Led Zeppelin song. Anything that shows the living\, breathing quality of the whole thing—that’s always wonderful. That’s what we’re here for. So don’t be afraid to let it happen.” \n  URL:https://www.high-noon.com/event/parker-millsap/ LOCATION:High Noon Saloon\, 701 East Washington Avenue\, Madison\, 53703 ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.high-noon.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/ParkerMillsap-HNS-WEB.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Chicago:20220825T170000 DTEND;TZID=America/Chicago:20220825T190000 DTSTAMP:20240328T135020 CREATED:20220502T004826Z LAST-MODIFIED:20220502T005618Z UID:7416-1661446800-1661454000@www.high-noon.com SUMMARY:Thursday's Happier Hour DESCRIPTION:Join us every Thursday this summer from 5-7PM on the patio at High Noon Saloon for a cold beer and a free happy hour show!\n**Sponsored by Blue Moon and Brass Ring**\n𝗟𝗜𝗡𝗘𝗨𝗣\nJune 2 – Old Soul Society\nJune 9 – The Grasshoppers\nJune 16 – Gregg Hall & The Wrecking Ball\nJune 23 – Craig Baumann & The Story\nJune 30 – Nuggernaut\nJuly 7 – Gin Mill Hollow\nJuly 14 – Seasaw\nJuly 21 – Wise Jennings\nJuly 28 – Dropbear Collective\nAugust 4 – Feeding Leroy\nAugust 11 – Ben Majeska & Friends\nAugust 18 – Wild Horses\nAugust 25 – High & Rising\nSeptember 1 – The MilBillies\nSeptember 8 – Frank Martin Busch and The Names\nSeptember 15 – Dig Deep\nSeptember 22 – Humbird URL:https://www.high-noon.com/event/thursdays-happier-hour-13/ LOCATION:High Noon Saloon\, 701 East Washington Avenue\, Madison\, 53703 CATEGORIES:Thursday's Happier Hour ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.high-noon.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Untitled-design-1.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Chicago:20220825T200000 DTEND;TZID=America/Chicago:20220825T200000 DTSTAMP:20240328T135020 CREATED:20220414T170013Z LAST-MODIFIED:20220607T205237Z UID:7380-1661457600-1661457600@www.high-noon.com SUMMARY:Midnight North DESCRIPTION:Based on the latest local guidelines\, attendees are no longer required to provide proof of negative COVID-19 test AND/OR vaccination for entry into this event. Other shows on our calendar may still have specific health and safety requirements based on artist request.  Be sure to check our venue website for the latest updates and guidelines as entry requirements are subject to change. \n\nABOUT MIDNIGHT NORTH \n\nThere’s Always a Story represents a new chapter for Midnight North. Ten stories told through song on their most polished album to date.Reflecting on the time since their origin\, Midnight North is ready to tell the world its story. A group of multi-instrumentalists with songwriting roots in Folk and Americana\, Midnight North is a mainstay on the stages of the national touring circuit. Rolling Stone hailed Midnight North as the “Best New Act” in its review of 2018’s Peach Music Festival saying the band “takes the best parts of roots music and weaves them into a tapestry of rock and Americana.”Grahame Lesh\, Elliott Peck\, & Connor O’Sullivan began playing together in San Francisco. In early 2012 they played their first show as Grahame Lesh & Friends. Grahame & Elliott both brought a repertoire of original music to this new project that was a perfect marriage once the band began performing in earnest. In late 2012 the band went into the studio for the first time\, tracking the entirety of their debut album End of the Night in just 2 days. End of the Night (mixed & produced by Connor) was released in June 2013 as they officially debuted the name Midnight North. \nThe band began touring in June 2015\, with the release of their second album Scarlet Skies. That began a five year run as a touring band\, playing in 36 states in front of thousands of people across the country. They released Under the Lights\, their most successful studio album to date\, in summer 2017. “Across all of the tracks\, when you think you have the band pegged for a style or a genre\, all of a sudden a chorus\, or a new solo or new instrument altogether\, diverts the music boldly but smartly to a new sound and feel\,” said The Poke Around in their review of Under the Lights. They also released two live albums including 2018’s Selections From the Great American Music Hall which featured Bob Weir & Phil Lesh of the Grateful Dead plus members of Twiddle as special guests. \nA pivotal moment for the band came when Grahame met drummer Nathan Graham at a benefit show in Philadelphia in 2016. A month later Nathan sat in with the band for a show\, eventually joining the band for their longest tour to date in the Spring of 2017. Bringing on the well seasoned drummer as a full-time member of the band (and learning about his banjo playing\, singing\, and song-writing skills) represented the next step forward as plans were made to record their fourth studio album. \nIn January 2020\, the band went into a California studio with producer David Simon-Baker to craft their fourth studio album\, There’s Always a Story\, released in 2021 on Americana Vibes. As the world shut down in March and the band quarantined separately around the country\, the album was finished remotely in California and Pennsylvania. As the months ticked by they let the rest of the newly written & recorded songs sink into their consciousness so that when work resumed on the album in June the entire album became even better than they could have hoped. \n2022 and beyond is a new beginning\, and while Midnight North longingly looks ahead\, hand-in-hand with the rest of the world\, There’s Always a Story will serve as a collective and reflective narrative. \n\n\n\nThis show is supported by WIJAM\nwww.wijam.net/ URL:https://www.high-noon.com/event/midnight-north/ LOCATION:High Noon Saloon\, 701 East Washington Avenue\, Madison\, 53703 ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.high-noon.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/MidnightNorth-HNS-WEB.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Chicago:20220826T210000 DTEND;TZID=America/Chicago:20220826T233000 DTSTAMP:20240328T135020 CREATED:20220817T162529Z LAST-MODIFIED:20220817T162529Z UID:7752-1661547600-1661556600@www.high-noon.com SUMMARY:Bongzilla DESCRIPTION:  \n\nCOVID-19 POLICY\nBased on the latest local guidelines\, attendees are no longer required to provide proof of negative COVID-19 test AND/OR vaccination for entry into this event. Very little is known about the early years of the band except for their appearances on a host of split and EP releases between 1996 and 1999\, the first being Mixed Bag on Rhetoric Records in 1996. Following a split with MeatJack another 7″ EP entitled Hemp For Victory (Named after the vintage educational/propaganda film of the same name) was released on Thunder Lizard. Two more splits followed the same year and eventually Bongzilla was signed to Relapse Records. \nThe first release on this label was Methods for Attaining Extreme Altitudes released on CD on 27 January 1998. The band at this point made yearly appearances at the Milwaukee Metalfest\, notably 1999 and 2000. The band’s debut studio album Stash saw it’s release on 20 April 1999 to positive reviews. A split with Corrupted\, Noothgrush and Dystopia entitled Twin Threat To Your Sanity followed. \nThe band’s second album saw release via Howling Bull America (With a reissue three years later via Relapse). Apogee was released on 11 May 2001 and showcased three new songs along with live recordings from 1998. A compilation of all of the band’s EPs and splits to that point entitled Shake: The Singles saw release the next year. The band’s third album Gateway saw release via Relapse on 3 September 2002. \nAmerijuanican and Hiatus (2003 – 2009)\nBongzilla would begin 2003 as part of the Relapse Contamination Festival\, with their performance being released as a live album the next year. The band sporadically played shows and tours\, with notable appearances at various festivals. \nA lineup change prompted one Dixie Dave Collins to join the band as their bassist\, leading them to record the band’s fourth album. Amerijuanican was released via Relapse on 27 September 2005 to positive reviews and featured a cover of “Champagne and Reefer” by Muddy Waters. The band toured and remained active until 2009 when the group quietly took a hiatus\, their last known show being Forward Fest alongside the likes of Bob Mould\, Detroit Cobras and Neko Case to name a few.\nBarbarian Records would reissue the Shake compilation as Nuggets in 2007 with three bonus tracks while Relapse would reissue Stash with the Methods for Attaining Extreme Altitudes as bonus tracks.\nReturn (2015 – Present)| \nIn April 2015 it was announced Bongzilla was reforming with the Gateway lineup\, first announcing a tour of Europe including dates at Heavy Days in Doomtown and Temples Festival along with a single date in NYC. The band followed up with a four-date tour of the West Coast USA\, a tour of the east coast USA and an appearance at Desertfest Belgium. \nBongzilla would follow with a tour of the United States alongside Black Cobra\, Lo-Pan\, Against The Grain and Kings Destroy the next year and make an appearance at Maryland Deathfest. The band toured the USA again that fall with Wizard Rifle and Buzzoven on select dates. \nBongzilla began 2017 with a local show in Wisconsin before embarking on another European tour\, playing the likes of Roadburn Festival\, DesertFest Berlin\, DesertFest London\, KrisionFest (Their first ever appearance in Spain) and have begun working on material for a new album. Bongzilla have also set course for a 2018 European tour with Dopethrone and Sons of Otis. Bongzilla would tour and perform several festivals in 2018 and 2019. In late 2018 Totem Cat Records would release a 14 song compilation of the Bongzilla early split / live material under the album name Thank You Marijuana. In early 2020\, Bongzilla started their own label called Gungeon Records and released a re-issue of their classic album Apogee. \nHowever\, in March of 2020 it would be announced that Cooter Brown would retire from the band due to health and family reasons\, with Bongzilla choosing to continue as a thunderous three-piece. During Bongzilla’s first tour as a thunderous three in March of 2020\, the tour was cut short due to the coronavirus pandemic. A few months into the pandemic\, Bongzilla began rehearsing and recording for several different record projects – A limited Wake Brewing 7 inch\, a full length album titled Weedsconsin\, an LP split with the band Tons\, and a 7 Inch Split with Boris\, the first of a 7 inch Split Series released on Gungeon Records. All projects were recorded at Future Apple Tree Studios in Rockford\, Illinois in October of 2020 by the legendary John Hopkins before his sudden and unexpected passing in the late fall of 2020. \nBongzilla announced signing to the Italian label – Heavy Psych Sounds on Janurary 21st of 2021. Bongzilla is preparing for the release of their new full length album Weedsconsin\, as well as a limited 7 Inch from Wake Brewing\, followed by the Bongzilla / Tons Split for the HPS series – Doom Sessions\, as well as the 7 inch split with Boris on Gungeon Records.
