More details available here. \nSamia’s 2020 debut album\, The Baby\, was a testament to her impressive vocal might\, irresistible tunefulness and\nvulnerable lyricism\, both clever and illuminating in equal measure. Drawing widespread acclaim from Pitchfork\,\nStereogum\, NPR\, NME\, The Sunday Times\, and others\, the LP more than delivered following the promise of\nearly singles like 2018’s “Django” and 2019’s “Ode to Artifice.” After emerging as one of the most exciting\nup-and-comers in indie rock\, Samia released a companion album this past January titled The Baby Reimagined\, a\ncollection of covers and remixes featuring Bartees Strange\, Anjimile\, Field Medic\, Palehound\, former tourmate\nDonna Missal\, and more. \nSamia spent much of 2020 in self-reflection\, and she also made various life changes that left her feeling more\nearnest and centered. “I got back into therapy and started thinking about boundaries\, I moved to Nashville\, I did\nyoga sometimes\,” she says. During this time\, she wrote a handful of songs that make up Scout\, a new EP out\ndigitally on July 23. “These were pretty much the only four songs that came naturally during this time\, but I\nthink they really mirror my emotional experience this past year\,” Samia says.\nWhile The Baby leaned more on self-deprecating humor\, Scout was born out of a need to “honor feeling secure in\nwhat [she] had to say.” Lead track “As You Are” revels in the preciousness of unconditional love (“When\nsomebody loves you / They take you as you are\,” she belts in the chorus) and floats delicately with graceful vocals\nand steady percussion. Staticky guitar number “Show Up” is an acknowledgment of personal growth\, and its\nunwavering desire for wholesome joy really tugs at the heartstrings (“Nothing could ever stop / my ass from\nshowing up / to sing another song for the people I love”). The EP is packed with reverence for life’s ups and\ndowns\, but more than anything\, it’s an ode to loved ones. \nThe compassionate glow of this EP partially stems from her new Nashville surroundings\, as well as her recent\nexperiences “feeling genuinely loved\, making new friends\, and holding onto old friendships.” There’s a palpable\nintimacy to these recordings\, whether it’s the voicemail murmurs of “As You Are\,” the heart-on-your-sleeve lyrics\nor the piano twinkles throughout. It’s reminiscent of that reassuring exhale in the mirror after an imperfect yet\nfulfilling day. As Samia puts it\, Scout is “The Baby’s slightly older sister letting her know that everything is gonna\nbe alright.” \nThe EP title is a nickname of Samia’s\, and it’s a fitting nod to the record’s benevolence. “My partner calls me\nScout\,” she explains. “It’s just a word that implies bravery to me. I always picture a little girl with a sash and\nbadges basking in her autonomy selling Samoas.” Whether you’re a girl scout trying to gain confidence or an\nadult who needs reminders of our inability to make everyone happy (“Elephant”) or the untold power of being\nthere for someone (“The Promise”)\, this EP is an unashamed loving nudge. \n  URL:https://www.high-noon.com/event/samia/ LOCATION:High Noon Saloon\, 701 East Washington Avenue\, Madison\, 53703 ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.high-noon.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/58c77fb7-97d5-40cc-8dca-ae3780b818b2_1523391_TABLET_LANDSCAPE_LARGE_16_9-hChrqi.tmp_.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Chicago:20220203T200000 DTEND;TZID=America/Chicago:20220203T200000 DTSTAMP:20240328T155621 CREATED:20211112T165643Z LAST-MODIFIED:20220203T214222Z UID:4988-1643918400-1643918400@www.high-noon.com SUMMARY:Aaron Kamm and the One Drops DESCRIPTION:Aaron Kamm and the One Drops at High Noon Saloon on February 3\, 2022  has been rescheduled to October 1\, 2022. Just when you think you have Good Morning Bedlam pegged\, they take you in another direction. You will be treated to a haunting waltz\, whistling\, jazz scatting\, and the euphoria of the violin melodies. When it comes to their lyrical storytelling\, Isaak says\, “We’re desperate to connect to people through the common human experiences that we write about and the exuberance of our live show. People have a lot of choices of how they’ll kick-back\, so we intend to deliver a show where they can be free–to share in whatever they need to–joy\, grief\, anger\, gratefulness\, or bedlam!” \nGood Morning Bedlam released their sophomore album\, Like Kings\, in July of 2018. Your ticket will be honored for the rescheduled date. For any further ticket inquiries please reach out to point of purchase. \nPlease note that High Noon Saloon\, Majestic Theatre\, Orpheum Theater\, and The Sylvee are requiring all fans to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours OR full vaccination for entry to all events at the venue moving forward. More details available here. \nABOUT ROBERT FINLEY \nWINNSBORO\, LA — Robert Finley’s singing is as primal as an alligator and sweeter than late-summer honey. And on the new Sharecropper’s Son\, he uses his marvelously expressive voice—which can glide from a gut-deep growl to a soothing purr to a transcendent falsetto all in a single phrase—to tell the story of his life in song. The album’s 10 numbers\, produced by Dan Auerbach for his Easy Eye Sound label and available on July 10th\, are blues\, soul\, gospel\, and rock-infused chapters from that life\, weaving Finley’s own stories of picking cotton\, country childhood\, hardship on city streets\, jail time\, the pain and joy of love\, the search for a better life and the dream of salvation into a spellbinding musical tale. \n“I try to open up my heart and keep it real every time I sing\,” explains Finley\, who has lived nearly all his days in and around the farmlands and swamps between his birthplace\, Bernice\, and his current home\, Winnsboro\, in North-Central Louisiana. “We made this album after we all went on tour together\, and we were ready. I was ready to tell my story\, and Dan and his guys knew me so well by then that they knew it almost like I do\, so they had my back all the way.” \nYou can hear that in how Finley and the band nearly breath together in songs like the gospel “Souled Out On You\,” where the singer’s heart-piercing falsetto rings sharp and clear as an angel’s horn—underpinned by Auerbach’s fuzz-sweetened brown-butter guitar tone—and “Sharecropper’s Son\,” where the musicians mine a deep\, funky groove as Finley sings about his raising “out in the red hot sun\, where the work is never done.” \nCut-by-cut\, this follow-up to Finley’s 2017’s Easy Eye Sound release Going Platinum! bristles with the visceral energy that can only be captured by creatively charged musicians playing live and spontaneously in the studio. In addition to Auerbach\, who dips into a deep well of styles and sounds throughout\, the band includes Mississippi hill country’s Kenny Brown and Eric Deaton\, veterans of Junior Kimbrough’s and R.L. Burnside’s bands\, on guitar and bass\, respectively. They’re joined by other notables: keyboardist and songwriter Bobby Wood\, who’s played a historic role in Memphis and Nashville music\, drum legend Gene Chrisman and the equally legendary Louisiana guitarist Billy Sanford. And the line-up’s completed by a full horn section\, bassist Dave Roe\, who has decades of experience with Johnny Cash\, Dwight Yoakam\, and John Mellencamp\, and drummer Sam Bacco\, who has a long resume in rock\, country\, pop\, and bluegrass. \nOf course\, the fire behind the conflagrant performances on Sharecropper’s Son is Finley\, who was so deeply in the zone throughout that his lyrics and vocal approach for two of the album’s songs\, the autobiographical “Country Child” and his manifesto of love and struggle\, “Country Boy\,” were improvised as he and the band rolled tape. \nSuch untrodden terrain is just another of the many settings where Finley feels comfortable. “When we play live\, I always leave room in the show for lyrics I make up on the spot while the band hits a groove\,” he explains. “I guess the younger generation calls it free-styling\, but for me\, it’s just speaking from my mind straight from my soul. It needs to be something I lived\, and then I can just tell people about it. One of the things I love about music is that\, when I was a boy growing up in the South\, nobody wanted to hear what I had to say or what I thought about anything. But when I started putting it in songs\, people listened.” \nAuerbach’s relationship with Finley began as a listener. He was knocked out by Finley’s talent at first hearing of Age Don’t Mean a Thing\, the singer’s 2016 debut on Fat Possum Records. “His voice was just out of control\, and I thought\, ‘I’ve got to get him into the studio\,’ ” Auerbach recounts. So the next year he invited Finley to Easy Eye Sound Studio in Nashville to record a soundtrack for Murder Ballads\, a graphic novel. And while Auerbach knew Finley’s voice was big\, he had no idea that his personality was just as large. \n“He walked in like he was straight out of the swamp\,” Auerbach attests. “He had leather pants\, snakeskin boots\, a big country & Western belt buckle\, a leather cowboy hat and a three-quarter-length leather duster.” The final touch was the folding cane the legally blind Finley wore on his hip\, in a holster. “Basically\, he was dressed for national television\,” Auerbach adds. \nThe result of those sessions\, which lasted only two afternoons\, was Finley’s Easy Eye Sound debut\, Going Platinum! That album was a jolting announcement of the arrival of a soon-to-be-legendary voice and talent\, and lifted Finley’s career into the spotlight. Now\, Sharecropper’s Son ups the ante with a band that—through sharing the stage and studio with the elder performer—has crafted an arresting and dynamic ensemble sound tailored for his eclectic musical interests. But perhaps more important\, this is the first album Finley’s recorded that fully showcases his autobiographical songwriting—allowing him to open his heart and mind to the world. Except for the closing spiritual “All My Hope\,” all the songs were written by Finley\, with co-writing by Auerbach\, Wood\, and well-respected country songwriter Pat McLaughlin on various tracks. \n“Robert is a truly great man\, and writing with him—getting that kind of window to his life—was an amazing experience\,” says Auerbach. “He’s legally blind and grew up working hard alongside his family on a farm and singing in the church. He taught himself how to play guitar. He was a helicopter repairman in Germany\, in the Army\, where he played and toured Europe with an Army band. He sang gospel and blues on the streets. He’s a highly skilled carpenter. He’s raised a family and his kids love him. And while he was doing all of that\, he developed one of the most unique\, powerful and poetic styles I’ve ever heard. And all of that comes through on Sharecropper’s Son.” \nAlthough Finley has long been a potent artist\, for most of the past 20 years\, after his blindness led him to semi-retirement\, he’s mostly been playing little joints within an hour’s drive of Winnsboro—like Riverside Coney Island\, which specializes in boiled crawfish\, and Enoch’s Irish Pub & Café\, both in Monroe\, Louisiana. But his ascent has been swift since he was discovered in 2015 busking on the streets of Helena\, Arkansas. In addition to touring more than 10 countries in the wake of his two earlier albums\, Finley was also a contestant on the 2019 season of the TV competition America’s Got Talent reaching the semi-finals and quickly became a fan favorite during his run. His daughter Christy Johnson\, who appeared with Finley on the show\, also provides some backing vocals for Sharecropper’s Son. \nReflecting on his new album\, Finley says\, “I want people to understand that I can’t be kept in a box. I like to do all kinds of music—everything that means anything to me\, from gospel to blues to soul to country to rock ‘n’ roll. And I like to stand out and be different\, and do things that reach young and older people. What I want everybody to know from my own experience is that you’re never too young to dream\, and that you’re never too old for your dream to come true.” URL:https://www.high-noon.com/event/robert-finley/ LOCATION:High Noon Saloon\, 701 East Washington Avenue\, Madison\, 53703 ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.high-noon.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/12/RobertFinley-HNS-WEB.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Chicago:20220216T200000 DTEND;TZID=America/Chicago:20220216T200000 DTSTAMP:20240328T155621 CREATED:20220208T195948Z LAST-MODIFIED:20220208T195948Z UID:7103-1645041600-1645041600@www.high-noon.com SUMMARY:Nerd Nite 076! Well\, that works just the same. “It’s old school with a new flair\,” King says simply. \nOne of country’s new crop of modern traditionalists\, he’s never lived outside the endless plains of West Texas – and his sound is steeped in their timeless beauty\, both gritty and graceful at the same time. Now produced by traditional torchbearers Bart Butler and Ryan Gore (Jon Pardi)\, King’s music captures that essence\, showcasing a talent who’s never been afraid to be himself. \n“If you’re trying to pin me down as a very specific artist\, there’s no other way to put it than ‘I’m Randall King\,’” he proclaims. “And ain’t nobody gonna tell me who I’m gonna be\, either.” \nBorn into a long line of heavy-hauling truckers\, King grew up singing in the back of a ‘93 Chevy Suburban\, joyfully mimicking the pure-country vocals of stars like Keith Whitley\, George Strait\, Alan Jackson and John Anderson. \nLater on he was drawn to the electrifying energy of modern stars like Eric Church\, Dierks Bentley and Jason Aldean\, and began writing his first songs in high school. He formed a hard-charging band in college that fused those two inspirations\, diving head first into the singer-songwriter scene at Lubbock’s iconic Blue Light. \nBut despite the traditional bent of his music – and the individualist fire in his chest – King was always looking beyond the ‘Red Dirt’ distinction. “I learned from the Red Dirt scene what it takes to grind\, because you have to work in that world\,” he explains. \nAfter years of hustling and a road-warrior’s diet of 150 shows each year\, King produced and released the defiant 2016 EP\, Another Bullet\, then followed up with a 2018 self-titled album. Now he’s looking to the anywhere-and-everywhere future. \nWorking within a clearly defined theme – “The three stages of a heartbreak” – King is bringing an organic\, timeless sound to country’s mainstream\, loaded with steel guitar\, wide-open vocals and punchy\, hard-rocking rhythms. \n“Every song I write has me in it\,” King says. “We don’t wait on nobody\, and we don’t sit around. I’ve always been the kind to attack and stay ahead of things\, so that’s what we do. We go out and kick the door down.” \nAll about getting left in a cloud of romantic dust\, the uptempo country-rocker “She Gone” does just that. Representing the first\, bewildering stage of a heartbreak\, King co-wrote the track with Chris Stevens and filled it with vivid imagery – which according to him\, wasn’t hard to come up with. \n“My favorite line is ‘She had her window down and her finger up\,’” he says with a laugh. “Man\, I’ve had a lot of women roll their widow down and stick their finger up at me.” \nMeanwhile\, the moody “Burnin’ at Both Ends” puts a swaying beat to heartbreak’s second stage. Dedicated to “Lighting up your memory / Like it’s love’s last cigarette\,” it’s a smoky barstool anthem written with Brett Beavers to highlight what King calls “the melt down.” \n“There’s so much anger in it and this idea that ‘If I can’t have you\, I’m gonna burn your memory down\,’” he explains. “It’s the ‘damn-you-for-leaving’ stage.” \nThe anger fades quickly\, however\, as King finishes his sonic portrait on a reflective note. The loping “Hey Cowgirl” is a co-write with Brice Long and Mark Nesler\, and it reveals a sense of big-picture wisdom that’s anything but bitter. Along with identity-defining streaming hits like “Another Bullet” and “Mirror\, Mirror\,” King says it’s one of the most meaningful songs he’s ever written. \n“That song is acceptance\,” he explains. “You see the girl out on the highway\, you tip your hat and watch her fly down the road. To me the beauty of that song is the respect aspect\, especially with it having that rodeo culture. … It’s a nod the head\, ‘Good luck\, good bye. We’re on to bigger and better things\, and we’re both right where we need to be.’” \nEach shares a sense of presence defined by its authenticity\, and there’s much more to come. This is what King was born to do\, and he’s not about to give up now. You can tell just by looking at him. \n“People can call it traditional country or whatever they want\, but to me\, it’s just me being who I am\,” he says. “It’s win or lose right here\, might as well go all in.” URL:https://www.high-noon.com/event/randall-king/ LOCATION:High Noon Saloon\, 701 East Washington Avenue\, Madison\, 53703 ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.high-noon.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/RandallKing-HNS-WEB.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Chicago:20220218T170000 DTEND;TZID=America/Chicago:20220218T190000 DTSTAMP:20240328T155621 CREATED:20220127T161525Z LAST-MODIFIED:20220127T161710Z UID:6967-1645203600-1645210800@www.high-noon.com SUMMARY:Happy Hour w/ Gin Mill Hollow DESCRIPTION:Head over to High Noon on Friday\, February 18 for a FREE happy hour with Gin Mill Hollow! She was born\, raised\, and homeschooled by two ex-cheerleaders in small-town Texas and started singing in church\, amidst the pasteurized-pop choruses of evangelical worship\, about which she shares acute perceptions. \nLike many bible belt late-millennials\, Katy grew up on a strict diet of this dependably uncool genre. She recalls\, “In the mid-90s\, the American evangelical church was making music of an extraordinarily digestible\, almost unprecedentedly easy-listening kind\, stylistically void and vaguely dubbed Christian Contemporary Music\, or CCM. It was pop that wasn’t quite pop\, determinedly hanging on to the openhearted melodies of a decade prior\, straightforward so as to be easily memorable\, and in a key that an average churchgoer could sing along to.” \nAccordingly\, Cool Dry Place finds her dismantling it. “I can hear myself negotiating with that worship-ish music\, fighting that deeply internalized impulse to make things that are super pleasant or approachable.” She hasn’t fully overcome the itch to please\, but to a listener’s benefit. Instead of eradicating the pop sensibilities of her past\, she warps them\, lacing sugary hooks with sneaky\, virulent rage\, twisting affectionate tones into matter-of-fact reproach\, and planting seemingly serene melodies with sonic jabs. The fun is in the clash. \nTake “Portals” for example\, a song of country-traditional chords and gentle vocal delivery that might have easily materialized as a placid ballad. Rather\, Katy drenched its soft core in metallic noise and oscillating string textures. You can imagine someone bussing glassware from a table nearby\, while Katy sits you down at a booth and trusts you with notes on a pre-breakup\, the first couple of minutes living in the last part of a relationship. \nWith the same masterful trickery\, “Traffic!” juxtaposes sound and sentiment\, a jittery combination of saturated pop and Rainforest Cafe’ faux-tropicalia projecting (arguably false) sympathy toward a character absorbed in his own self-inflicted misery. Though her chorus wails jubilant\, Katy weaponizes its catchy gusts to criticize privilege: “Nobody has it better than you.” \nKaty’s residual ties to church life are audial alone; spiritually\, she has worked to detach. “Until a couple of years ago\, I spent much of my time falling out of love with God. My life until then hadn’t just been participating in a church so much as completely\, profoundly believing—youth group\, sure\, but also a few attempts to cast out demons. Learning how to think or see things outside of that very intense\, clarified space was like rewiring my brain. I guess that if there’s one thing that unifies these songs\, it’s that they’re figuring out what to do\, or how to love\, or who to rely on outside of that context.” \nThe nine tracks that make up Cool Dry Place are miscellaneous in subject (motherhood\, late capitalism\, disintegrating relationships\,) but unified by the angle from which they’re told\, from a person re-learning to process life with intense attention. Each song is a catalog of fragments\, the number of segments in an orange or the cut of an obsessively-worn shirt\, distilled into meditations on the bizarre and microscopic exchanges that make up modern life — a relationship splintering\, an uncomfortable pause\, an understanding finally found. These emotional dioramas are moderated by the angular storytelling that unites Gillian Welch and Phoebe Bridgers\, a favor for the conventions of short fiction over confession. \nKirby readily admits that Cool Dry Place feels like a late-bloomer’s record. “These songs were written and recorded over an embarrassingly long period of time\, by a few different versions of myself.” The album began in Nashville years ago. Kirby had moved there for college\, changed majors five times\, briefly dropped out\, and finally graduated with a handful of songs\, a circle of artistic allies\, an amorphous collection of leftist beliefs\, and an English degree. She flailed in the solo-artist archetype for a period of time before turning to friends capable of constructing a satisfying full length. Kirby\, Alberto\, Hunt\, Logan\, and Zook spent over a year carving out bits of spare time to record in bedroom studios\, living rooms\, and a now-demolished former residence of Keith Urban. Tracking was finally completed over Thanksgiving 2019 at Kirby’s childhood home outside of Austin. \nAs its title track flips the advisory on a package of Tylenol into a hymn to human need for protection and acceptance\, Cool Dry Place asks a listener to embrace the precious and contradictory nature of being a person. Katy Kirby is an artist simultaneously tender and angry\, vulnerable and protected\, calculated and resigned. \nSun June\nThe five members of Sun June spent their early years spread out across the United States\, from the boonies of the Hudson Valley to the sprawling outskirts of LA. Having spent their college years within the gloomy\, cold winters of the North East\, Laura Colwell and Stephen Salisbury found themselves in the vibrant melting-pot of inspiration that is Austin\, Texas. Meeting each other while working on Terrence Malick’s ‘Song to Song’\, the pair were immediately taken by the city’s bustling small clubs and honky-tonk scene\, and the fact that there was always an instrument within reach\, always someone to play alongside. \nComing alive in this newly discovered landscape\, Colwell and Salisbury formed Sun June alongside Michael Bain on lead guitar\, Sarah Schultz on drums\, and Justin Harris on bass and recorded their debut album live to tape\, releasing it via the city’s esteemed Keeled Scales label in 2018. The band coined the term ‘regret pop’ to describe the music they made on the ‘Years’ LP. Though somewhat tongue in cheek\, it made perfect sense ~ the gentle sway of their country leaning pop songs seeped in melancholy\, as if each subtle turn of phrase was always grasping for something just out of reach. \nSun June returns with ‘Somewhere’\, a brand new album\, out February 2021. It’s a record that feels distinctly more present than its predecessor. In the time since\, Colwell and Salisbury have become a couple\, and it’s had a profound effect on their work; if Years was about how loss evolves\, Somewhere is about how love evolves. “We explore a lot of the same themes across it\,” Colwell says\, “but I think there’s a lot more love here.” \nSomewhere is Sun June at their most decadent\, a richly diverse album which sees them exploring bright new corners with full hearts and wide eyes. Embracing a more pop-oriented sound the album consists of eleven beautiful new songs and is deliberately more collaborative and fully arranged: Laura played guitar for the first time; band members swapped instruments\, and producer Danny Reisch helped flesh out layers of synth and percussion that provides a sweeping undercurrent to the whole thing. \nThroughout Somewhere you can hear Sun June blossom into a living-and-breathing five-piece\, the album formed from an exploratory track building process which results in a more formidable version of the band we once knew. ’Real Thing’ is most indicative of this\, a fully collaborative effort which encompasses all of the nuances that come to define the album. “Are you the real thing?” Laura Colwell questions in the song’s repeated refrain. “Honey I’m the real thing\,” she answers back.\nThey’ve called this one their ‘prom’ record; a sincere\, alive-in-the-moment snapshot of the heady rush of love. “The prom idea started as a mood for us to arrange and shape the music to\, which we hadn’t done before\,” the band explains. “ Prom isn’t all rosy and perfect. The songs show you the crying in the bathroom\,\, the fear of dancing\, the joy of a kiss – all the highs and all the lows.” \nIt’s in both those highs and lows where Somewhere comes alive. Laura Colwell’s voice is mesmerising throughout\, and while the record is a document of falling in love\, there’s still room for her to wilt and linger\, the vibrancy of the production creating beautiful contrasts for her voice to pull us through. Opening track ‘Bad With Time’ sets this tone from the outset\, both dark and mysterious\, sad and sultry as it fascinatingly unrolls. “I didn’t mean what I said\,” Colwell sings. “But I wanted you to think I did.” \nSomewhere showcases a gentle but eminently pronounced maturation of Sun June’s sound\, a second record full of quiet revelation\, eleven songs that bristle with love and longing. It finds a band at the height of their collective potency\, a marked stride forward from the band that created that debut record\, but also one that once again is able to transport the listener into a fascinating new landscape\, one that lies somewhere between the town and the city\, between the head and the heart; neither here nor there\, but certainly somewhere. On their self-titled sixth album and Rounder Records debut\, fiddle player Libby Rodenbough\, mandolinist Jacob Sharp\, guitarist Joseph Terrell\, and bassist Wood Robinson share their most sonically adventurous and lyrically rich work to date\, each moment charged with the tension between textural effervescence and an underlying despair about the modern world. \nMainly recorded at Echo Mountain in Asheville\, North Carolina\, Mipso finds the band joining forces with Sandro Perri (a musician/producer known for his work with acts like Great Lake Swimmers\, as well as his own post-rock/experimental-electronic material). In overseeing the production process\, Perri guided Mipso toward their goal of shaping a sonic landscape that\nwas expansive and atmospheric yet surprisingly personal\, even playful. To that end\, the band dreamed up Mipso’s resplendent textures by stretching the limits of their acoustic instruments\,\nrather than employing outside musicians to create new sounds. The result is a body of work with spacious arrangements that gently illuminate the idiosyncratic details and refined musicianship at the heart of every song. A tireless creator\, she’s built her sound in the grey area between Americana\, Southern-gothic soul\, and forward-thinking rock & roll. It’s a sound that nods to her past — a childhood spent in the Rust Belt; a decade logged as a member of the L.A.-based duo HoneyHoney; the acclaimed solo album\, Ruby Red\, that launched a new phase of her career in 2017; and the world tour that took her from Greece to Glastonbury as a member of Hozier’s band — while still exploring new territory. With Yard Sale\, Santo boldly moves forward\, staking her claim once again as an Americana innovator. It’s an album inspired by the past\, written by an artist who’s only interested in the here-and-now. And for Suzanne Santo\, the here-and-now sounds pretty good. \nYard Sale\, her second release as a solo artist\, finds Santo in transition. She began writing the album while touring the globe with Hozier — a gig that utilized her strengths not only as a vocalist and multi-instrumentalist\, but as a road warrior\, too. “We never stopped\,” she says of the year-long trek\, which often found her pulling double-duty as Hozier’s opening act and bandmate. “Looking back\, I can recognize how much of a game-changer it was. It raised my musicianship to a new level. It truly reshaped my career.” \nSongs like “Fall For That” were written between band rehearsals\, with Santo holing herself up in a farmhouse on the rural Irish coast. Others were finished during bus rides\, backstage writing sessions\, and hotel stays. Grateful for the experience but eager to return to her solo career\, she finished her run with Hozier\, joining the band for one final gig — a milestone performance at Glastonbury\, with 60\,000 fans watching — before flying home to Los Angeles. Within three days\, she was back in the studio\, working with producer John Spiker on the most compelling album of her career. \nSanto didn’t remain in Los Angeles for very long. Things had changed since she released 2017’s Ruby Red\, an album produced by Butch Walker and hailed by Rolling Stone for its “expansion of her Americana roots.” She’d split up with her longtime partner. Her old band\, HoneyHoney\, was on hiatus. Feeling lonely in her own home\, Santo infused songs like “Common Sense” and “Idiot” with achingly gorgeous melodies and woozy melancholia. She then got the hell out\, moving to Austin — a city whose fingerprints are all over Yard Sale\, thanks to appearances by hometown heroes like Shakey Graves and Gary Clark Jr. — and falling in love all over again. Throughout it all\, Santo continued writing songs\, filling Yard Sale with the ups and downs of a life largely spent on the run. \n“I moved so much\, both emotionally and physically\, while making this record\,” she says. “I dropped my band\, joined a world tour\, came back home\, went through a heartbreak\, moved across the country\, and fell in love with someone else. I just kept marching forward. Throughout that experience\, there was this emotional unpacking of sorts. A shedding of baggage. I’ve gotten good at knowing what I need to keep holding onto and what I don’t.” \nIf yard sales represent a homeowner’s purging of old possessions in order to clear up some much-needed room\, then Yard Sale marks the moment where Suzanne Santo makes peace with her past and embraces a better\, bolder present. Musically\, she’s at the top of her game\, writing her own string arrangements and singing each song an agile\, acrobatic voice. On “Since I’ve Had Your Love\,” she bridges the gap between indie-rock and neo-soul\, punctuating the song’s middle stretch with a cinematic violin solo. She mixes gospel influences with a deconstructed R&B beat on “Over and Over Again\,” recounts some hard-learned lessons with the folk-rock anthem “Mercy\,” and drapes “Bad Beast” with layers of spacey\, atmospheric electric guitar. Shakey Graves contributes to “Afraid of Heights\,” a rainy-day ballad driven forward by a metronomic drum pattern\, and Gary Clark Jr. punctuates the guitar-driven “Fall For That” with fiery fretwork. \n“This is like one of those yard sales where there’s something for everybody\,” Santo says. “You want a crockpot or a racquetball paddle? A duvet cover? I’ve got it.” On a more serious note\, she adds\, “But I’ve also gotten into the emotional concept of what a yard sale really is\, too. This record is about the things I’ve left behind and the things I’ve holding onto. I was broken up with while writing the record. I fell in love again while writing the record. And I learned to fearlessly follow my gut\, in all places of my life\, while making this record.” \nYou can’t blame Suzanne Santo from looking back once in awhile. Raised in Parma\, OH\, she was scouted as a model and actress at 14 years old\, spent her summer vacations working in locations like Tokyo\, and later moved to New York City\, where she attended the Professional Children’s School alongside classmates like Jack Antonoff and Scarlett Johansson. Moving to Los Angeles in her late teens\, she formed HoneyHoney and released three albums with the duo\, working with top-shelf Americana labels like Lost Highway and Rounder Records along the way. Working with Butch Walker on 2017’s Ruby Red resulted in an offer to join Walker’s touring band\, followed one year later by a similar request from Hozier. \n“It’s a rollercoaster\, and I’ve been strapped in pretty good\,” she says. “I’ve been riding it out.” URL:https://www.high-noon.com/event/suzanne-santo/ LOCATION:High Noon Saloon\, 701 East Washington Avenue\, Madison\, 53703 ATTACH;FMTTYPE=image/jpeg:https://www.high-noon.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/SS-HNS-Web.jpg END:VEVENT BEGIN:VEVENT DTSTART;TZID=America/Chicago:20220311T210000 DTEND;TZID=America/Chicago:20220312T000000 DTSTAMP:20240328T155621 CREATED:20220309T160338Z LAST-MODIFIED:20220310T155003Z UID:7193-1647032400-1647043200@www.high-noon.com SUMMARY:Ukrainian Relief Show with Howler and Powerwagon DESCRIPTION:A portion of proceeds will benefit Ukrainian Relief efforts. \n  \n  \nPlease note that The Sylvee\, High Noon Saloon\, Majestic Theatre\, and Orpheum Theater are requiring all fans to provide proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of the show.
