The band poopshovel (note the small “p”) formed in Madison, Wisconsin in the late 80s from a large group of friends and music lovers that met at the U.W. Eventually consisting of Bill Crawford (vocals, trumpet), Peter Kaesberg (drums, vocals), David Kovalic (bass), and Richard Whitaker (guitar), the band bonded under a shared motto (“Stupid is Cool”) and recorded two albums (Opus Lengthemus, 1989; I Came, I Saw, I Had a Hotdog (1991) and one single (Outta My Hair/Dragon Attack, 1991) with Community Three Records. Through (semi) intensive touring in the eastern U.S., Germany, and Holland, and a sincere love for the people and food in the places they traveled, poopshovel made two treasured and prestigious lists: “Very Unfortunate Band Names” (Revolution 666) and “Moronic Band Names” (Asmodeus). With band members now living in Oakland, Flagstaff, St. Louis, and Eau Claire. poopshovel looks forward to reuniting in Madison to play for old and new fans.
