“Play fast and turn it to 10”

The phrase has guided Madison’s Mission Trip since they formed during the COVID pandemic in 2021. Opting to play as many live shows as possible rather than record, the group has become a staple of the Madison DIY scene over the past year. In the dark basements of Madison’s house shows, the five-piece has honed a unique sound that blends 90’s-influenced post punk with shoegaze, art punk, and modern indie. With influences ranging from the dual-guitar noise of Sonic Youth to the anthemic Midwest power-pop of the Replacements, no two Mission Trip songs sound the same. Now operating as a well-oiled DIY machine, Mission Trip’s live performances are explosions of communal joy and that good ole Midwestern angst.
