Big Easy brass meets Caribbean steel on Fat Tuesday, February 13, at the High Noon for “Mardi Gras Bacchanal” featuring Mama Digdown’s Brass Band and Panchromatic Steel.

Having recently celebrated their 30th anniversary, Mama Digdown’s will be rolling in hot with its high-octane blend of butt-shakin’ funk and New Orleans jazz. A newcomer by comparison, Panchromatic Steel has forged a completely new trail in a relatively short time, combining island styles with rock, pop and jazz to create uber-danceable, mood-lifting jams performed with steeldrums, horns, vocals and percussion.

Both bands honor musical traditions that are widely associated with the celebration of Carnival in the postcolonial, New World African Diaspora in NOLA and Trinidad & Tobago. To highlight this common musical DNA, Digdown’s and Panchromatic will put on a show worthy of the name “bacchanal,” which is a French word derived from “Bacchus,” the god of wine in Greek mythology, translating loosely as a “tumultuous orgy.”

New Orleans cuisine from Chef Dave Heide and St Charles Station / Ollie’s Madison will be available for purchase, so come get some.
