Nick Brown Band
Nick Brown Band
Nick Brown is a singer and songwriter based in Madison, Wis. A longtime musical collaborator and bass player, Brown released his debut album, “Slow Boat,” in 2012. The snow-country-tinted and heartfelt album was particularly well received among fellow malcontents and shiftless romantics.

Brown’s second album, the EP “Contender,” was recorded over three years, featuring the skilled hands and musically proficient minds of longtime Madison players and bandmates Andrew Harrison (electric and pedal steel guitars), Ben Wolf (drums, percussion, synths), Rusty Lee (keys, synths) and Pat Logterman (upright bass, gourd banjo).

“Nick Brown’s first album begins with the somber, arresting ‘Living That Way’ and proceeds to resourcefully bounce in all manner of directions, all the while retaining sparse, dignified arrangements. Brown plays with classic-country tropes on “Light Beer And Heavy Hearts,” goes on a smart-assed journey of disappointment on “Factory Farms,” takes a jaunty gambling trip to Canada on “Hold On Windsor.” Though this naturally makes for a slightly uneven experience, it’s also one of rewarding surprises, and one of the best singer-songwriter records a local artist has released in recent years.” — Tone Madison
Evan Murdock & the Imperfect Strangers
Evan Murdock & the Imperfect Strangers
Evan Murdock has been playing music in Madison since 2000; beginning with the Lonesome Rogues during their 6 year tenure at the no-longer-extant Wonder's Pub (now home to the Alchemy Cafe), then with the Kentucky Waterfalls, and finally striking off solo in 2011. During that time his songwriting has evolved from, well, not happening, to being the primary focus of his musical efforts. His songs run the gamut from soulful ballads to up-tempo dancers, and touch on subjects like love, loss, and dinosaurs. Though he strives to bring a fierce dedication to his craft, Evan is easily distracted by shiny objects and laser pointers.

The Imperfect Strangers are a rag-tag amalgam of ruffians and roustabouts held together by their dedication to music and beer.
Josh Harty & The Big Tasty
Josh Harty & The Big Tasty
Josh Harty's unique blend of American music has become a must-hear for those who keep the tradition of country, blues and folk close to their hearts. Born and raised on the plains of North Dakota, Harty grew up playing shows across the Midwest with his father, a small-town police chief and preacher. The touring bug has never left Josh as he now continuously travels across Europe and North America. Harty is always looking for that balance between the rolling road and the people who inspire him, trading stories around kitchen tables and theatre stages. His live shows prove that good storytelling combined with journeyman musicianship is as American as music gets.

Harty's new album, Holding On (released April, 2016) was recorded at DNA Music Labs in Madison, WI and was produced by Blake Thomas and Mark Whitcomb. The album features songs written on the road over the last 2+ years performed by a full band.
Wrenclaw
Wrenclaw
Blending country harmonies and slithery slide guitars, they create a down-home, backwoods soul shakedown. Wrenclaw captures the longing and redemption of one-horse towns and whistle-stop childhood memories. Dan Walkner’s voice shimmers and growls; his timeless guitar slides and slurs with bottleneck flourishes. Wrenclaw digs deep in gospel, delta, and back-country roots to create captivating moods. The song-writing is emotive yet never sentimental; honest and universal, but never cliche.
